Sony Xperia M5: in a nutshell

Sony Xperia M5: in a nutshell
Authored By Matthew Moorhouse 0 Comment(s)

The Sony Xperia M5 is like a flagship handset without the price tag. The phone has great specs, a stylish design and a waterproof build. With this in mind, it seems like more than a mid-range phone. Its specs are just as good as the Sony Xperia Z5, especially when it comes to its camera, but let’s find out if it really is as good…

Sony Xperia M5

What’s the Screen Like?

The screen on the Xperia M5 is a 5.0-inch 1080 x 1920 IPS LCD display with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. This is an impressive screen for an affordable phone and isn’t too big for it not to be comfortable to hold. While the colours are bright and it provides a vivid display to a certain extent, there is better on the market.

The Phone’s Design

The Xperia M5 features a glass back and stainless steel corners which make it look high-end and very attractive indeed. At 7.6mm thick, it’s a slim handset. But that’s not all! The phone is also IP68 certified dust and water resistant to depths of up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. So you don’t need to worry about getting it wet!

How Powerful Is It?

There’s a hefty amount of power in the Xperia M5 with a 64-bit 2.0GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor and 3GB of RAM. This is impressive for a mid-range phone with its relatively high-end processor.

The Camera

The camera is maybe the best thing about the Sony Xperia M5, as there’s a 21.5MP sensor on the back and a 13MP one on the front – one of the best on the market in this class! In terms of sheer megapixel numbers both of those have most flagships beat. Of course, there’s more to judge than megapixels, but with support for 4K video and 5 x digital zoom without noticeable loss of quality it’s a great camera for a mid-range phone.

Pros and Cons

Let’s get down to brass tacks and take a look at the pros and cons.

Pros

+ Water resistant

+ Excellent screen

+ Impressive camera (both front and back)

Cons

- It only has 16GB of storage

- Very little extra features

All in all the Xperia M5 is certainly better than expected and is an affordable handset that comes with a big punch. If you’ve scooped yourself one, have a look at the accessories available in our online shop.
