ARCHOS 64 Zenon

ARCHOS 64 Zenon

Here’s something very new to the market, and that is the new phablet from ARCHOS, namely the 64 Zenon. It’s a budget phablet, coming in at 199 GBP, and it’s quite a decent phone, although not in the class of the high-end phablets.

Engine room

The phablet comes with a 1.3GHz quad core processor with 1GB RAM and a 2800 mAh battery, which is said to give more than day’s life to the phone. It has 4GB of internal storage that can thankfully be upgraded via microSIM to 64GB.It also has Bluetooth. The operating system is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and not KitKat, but don’t let that put you off.  The power and volume buttons are placed on the back edge of the phone, which is an odd place to put them indeed. See if it works for you, but it takes a while to get used to the button positions.

The phablet also has a dual SIM slot, so that you can run two networks at the same time or two services such as data and voice. The screen is a beautiful 1280x720 IPS HD screen with a respectable 6.4” size, and has great viewing angles. That’s large.

The phablet is Google certified, so it has all the Google goodness, including Gmail, Chrome, Maps and Hangouts. You also have access to Google Play Store, with over a million apps at your disposal.

The camera is a medium range 8MP number with auto focus and LED flash, and it gives decent photos that you can be proud of.  It also takes video at 1080p, which is a good thing.

Media centre

ARCHOS provides a media centre with apps for video and music, meta-scraping and subtitles. It has a neat little trick in that it can pick up streaming media from a tablet or computer and show it on the phablet. It can also stream media to a DNLA enabled TV.

If you are looking for a budget phablet then the ARCHOS 64 Zenon should be on your shopping list. It has everything you are looking for at a great price!
